Gear Sign
Leader:
Kai He
Overview:
The Gear Sign is a 4 ft x 1 ft CREATE Club logo with 3D printed gears and letter parts. The gears will be interactive and powered by one motor. The motor will be controlled by a 555 timer. Each time the button is pressed, the motor will be turned on for a certain amount of time and spin the gears for one full cycle and stop. During this time interval, the letters will be split and become disoriented along the gear motion. They will then come back to the original configuration, showing the “CREATE” logo again.
Currently the following tasks have been completed: 2D concept sketch, circuit board with 555 timer for motor control (circuit that produces a constant voltage output for a certain amount of controlled time), and vector drawings for gears in real dimensions (all gears have tooth spacing 15mm and the gear sizes vary from 9 teeth to 34 teeth).
The following tasks are soon to be completed: Laser-cut cardboard gears to determine structure, build functional prototype with cardboard (gears, motor, and electronics), 3D print gears and letter parts, purchase materials and components for the entire assembly, and assembly of the final logo.
